Southpaw Garrett Bayliff became the first opposing pitcher to shut out McLoud this season as Tuttle registered a 2-0 victory Tuesday.
Bayliff allowed three singles — two by losing hurler Calyn Young and one to Jeremy Wright — in seven innings. Bayliff fanned 11 and walked just one batter.
“He handcuffed us,” McLoud head coach Travis Owen said.
Young was also outstanding on the mound, surrendering only three hits, whiffing three and walking one. Both of Tuttle’s runs were unearned as the result of two fourth-inning errors — one on a botched infield grounder and one on a dropped outfield fly.
“Calyn pitched a great game,” Owen said. “He kept them off balance.”
Only in two of the seven innings did Tuttle send more than three batters to the plate. Tuttle sent five to the plate in the fourth and four in the sixth.
Tuttle played errorless ball behind Bayliff.
McLoud, 21-7, will try to get back on the winning track Thursday at Meeker. The Redskins will also entertain Byng Friday at 4 p.m., then host Tuttle in a 1 p.m. rematch Saturday.
