Tecumseh finishes second

 Tecumseh’s bid for a Konawa Softball Tournament championship came up just short Saturday via a 3-1 loss to Cleveland.
Tecumseh posted victories over Konawa (3-2), McLoud (1-0) and Latta (8-3) Saturday before falling to Cleveland.
The championship matchup was tied at 1 when Cleveland scored twice in the bottom of the sixth for the win. Courtesy runner Kelly Ngyen scored on a passed ball from third for Tecumseh’s run.
Pebbles Paxson and Paige Lenaburg recorded two singles each for Tecumseh.
In the five-inning time-limit win over Konawa, Tara Goodman led Tecumseh’s seven-hit attack with two singles. Billie, the winning pitcher, permitted seven hits.
Billie also got the pitching win against McLoud, allowing three singles and fanning four in a seven-innng stint. She didn’t issue a walk.
Tecumseh scored its only run in the top of the first when Billie drove in Micah Laughlin with a single.
Kenra O’Shell went 2-for-2 with two singles.
Against Latta, Tecumseh tallied three runs in the second and four in the fourth. Billie, who came on in relief of starter Caitlin Cox in the first inning, allowed only two hits in four innings.
Tecumseh collected 13 hits against Latta as Paxson, Billie and O’Shell each had a double and single.
Lenaburg added two singles. The game went just four innings because of the time-limit rule.
In Friday’s tournament action, Billie posted two pitching victories and collected five hits as Tecumseh whipped Coalgate (10-4) and Ada (12-0).
In the win over Coalgate, Tecumseh snapped a 4-4 tie with six runs in the sixth inning. Billie fanned six and also went 3-for-3 at the plate with three doubles.
Also excelling in Tecumseh’s 12-hit attack was Lenaburg with a double, single and one run driven in. O’Shell went 3-of-4 with a double and two singles.
Against Ada, Billie didn’t allow a runner as the game went just three innings. Billie fanned four of the nine batters in upping her pitching record to 3-1.
Tecumseh accumulated 15 hits as Laughlin was the ringleader with three singles. She also drove in three runs.
Lenaburg added a triple and single in collecting three RBI. Billie had a double and single and Goodman notched two singles and scored three times.
All nine Tecumseh starters got in the hit category.
“I was really proud of how we played Saturday,” Tecumseh head coach Chad Trahan said. “Playing four games in one day isn’t easy. They fought very hard.”
Tecumseh (6-2) will play Chandler and Prague Monday at Chandler. The Lady Savages will oppose Prague at 5:30 and Chandler at 7.

Bethel wins two
NORMAN — Savanna Humphrey had her scoreless pitching string snapped but Bethel remained undefeated by recording two wins Saturday at the Chisholm Trail Classic.
In her first three victories, Humphrey didn’t allow a run in 18 innings. Saturday, Humphrey rang up two more wins — 7-1 over Tuttle and 3-1 over Wayne — but both runs she gave up were unearned.
Versus Tuttle, Humphrey gave up seven hits, fanned four and didn’t have a walk.
Bethel rang up 12 hits as five players — Brittany Watson, Kami Adams, Humphrey, Tessa Pierce and Mikayli Thompson — chipped in with two singles each.
Wayne had six hits against Humphrey, who struck out four and walked two. Like Tuttle, Wayne scored its unearned run in the second inning.
Bethel finished with seven hits as Jessica Simmons chalked up two singles. Teammate Katrina Brewer notched an RBI double.
Humphrey went to 5-0.
Bethel (5-0) will host Sasakwa Tuesday at 5 p.m.


Meeker splits games
NORMAN — Meeker’s softballers kept their overall record at .500 Saturday by splitting two games at the Chisholm Trail Classic.
In its opener, Meeker tripped Mustang’s junior-varsity squad, 6-3, as Kristen Goodnight took the pitching loss. Goodnight permitted five hits and fanned two.
Meeker connected for 10 hits as Kelsha Orso and Taylor Woodall led the way with two singles apiece. Orso also drove in two runs.
In its second test of the day, Meeker knocked off Apache, 4-2, as Goodnight was awarded the win. Meeker was held to five hits, including a double and single by Woodall. Orso tagged a run-scoring double in the second inning.
Meeker (3-3) will play two home games Monday. The Lady Bulldogs will contest Perkins at 4 and Holdenville at 7. Perkins and Holdenville will clash at 5:30.
