MAUD — The Tigers of Maud outslugged the Claremore Christian Warriors 57-48 in a game that lasted over three hours and saw both teams combine for nearly 1,000 total yards.
Maud coach Bruce Harrell said, “We’re extremely happy to get out of here with a win. They’re a lot better than everyone thought they were.”
While the Tigers racked up their yards on the ground, Claremore Christian amassed the majority of its offense through the air. Warrior quarterback Andrew Bell completed 34 of his 55 pass attempts for 410 yards and five touchdowns. The Tigers intercepted Bell three times, however.
The Tigers took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards in five plays, capped by a 10-yard run by quarterback Shane Bailey. The Warriors answered the Maud score, as would be the theme for the night, with a 23-yard strike.
Bailey scored again on a 9-yard run, followed by a 23-yard touchdown run by the Warriors. Chris Wolfe then ripped the visitors for a 59-yard sprint, which was answered by another Claremore Christian touchdown throw. Wolfe then scored on a run from the 38. The Warriors responded with their third touchdown pass to take the lead with 2:18 remaining in the half, 28-26.
On Maud’s final drive of the half, Bailey found Cody Goss open for a 31-yard touchdown pass with only 10 seconds remaining, taking a 34-28 lead into the locker room.
The Tigers scored three more times in the second half off a Wolfe 5-yard run, Jordy Garren 4-yard run, and Bailey’s 60-yard interception return.
Wolfe finished the night with 26 carries for 241 yards and three scores. Bailey was 3-of-4 passing for 78 yards and a touchdown and had 33 yards rushing on seven attempts and two touchdowns. Garren rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on 14 rushes.
