SHAWNEE, Okla. —

For the third time in a little over a week, Shawnee’s fast-pitch softball squad was foiled in its effort to launch the 2008 campaign.
Shawnee’s scheduled game Monday night at Piedmont was rained out. Because it is a Suburban Conference matchup, it will be rescheduled, Shawnee head coach Todd Boyer said.
Scheduled games with Guthrie and Mustang have also been rained out. Since Guthrie is also a Suburban Conference foe, that game has been rescheduled for Oct. 1 at Shawnee. The junior-varsity will play at 5 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
The rainout with non-conference foe Mustang will not be made up, Boyer said.
The Lady Wolves will try to start the season again today at Harrah. The JV game is slated for 5 p.m. with the varsity going to battle at 6:30.
Today’s varsity game could match two of the state’s top pitchers in seniors Ashley Brokeshoulder of Shawnee and Ali Manship of Harrah.
Additional rain is projected for some areas today.
“We’ve never had these many postponements and this much rain this early in the season since I’ve been here,” Boyer said. “It has just been unusually wet.”
Boyer’s squad will entertain Meeker Thursday with the JV contest set for 5 p.m. and the varsity game to follow. The Lady Wolves will compete Friday and Saturday in the Carl Albert Tournament.
