McLoud Junior High student Zachary Sheppard was nominated by a McLoud teacher to attend the National Young Leaders State Conference. The conference is today through Sunday in Tulsa.
Sheppard received financial assistance from area sponsors, including H-I-S Paint Manufacturing in Oklahoma City, Town and Country Animal Hospital in Choctaw, Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma, Don and Gail Laughlin, John and Helen Sheppard, Linda Banks, Gorge and JoAnne Saffeels, science teacher Mrs. Rooker, McLoud Intermediate principal Mike Goats, financial literacy teacher Mrs. Oneal, David Zuk, Matt and Amy Schachle, Hank Lau and Linda McElroy from Oklahoma Baptist University.
Oklahoma’s conference is one of 35 being held as part of the National Young Leaders State Conference. Through the four-day program, scholars will build a working “toolkit” of strategies to help them dream, create and implement plants that will change how they view their role as leaders in their communities.
The curriculum focuses on an introspective and personalized assessment of each student’s leadership skills and abilities. The scholars will be challenged to step forward in a manner that is decisive and confident, to grasp the concepts of leadership that will be taught and to act upon their dreams of making a difference in the world while maintaining the courage of their convictions.
