AP — Jack Mildren, ex-lieutenant governor and former star quarterback at Oklahoma, is undergoing treatment for stomach cancer.
Mildren currently is a sportscaster and an executive for Arvest Bank.
He said Thursday he is receiving chemotherapy treatments at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, but continues to work.
Mildren, who led OU's wishbone offense in 1970 and 1971, co-hosts a sports talk show with Ron Thulin on Jox 930. He also co-hosts with Rick Heath two television sports shows on Cox Channel 7.
"Things are going OK," Mildren said. "Everyday is a new day. I'm fighting it pretty good. I have good hopes and the doctors have good hopes, and we'll keep going at it."
Mildren said the cancer was discovered after an extended bout of hiccups.
He said he wasn't sure how long the treatments would continue.
"It all depends on what the chemo does and how your body reacts. You can't stay on it forever, that's for sure," he said.
