A Tecumseh man died overnight after his pickup ran off U.S. 177 and rolled.
Tecumseh Police Lt. J.R. Kidney said the accident occurred about 1:19 a.m. on U.S. 177, near the Holly Lane exit in Tecumseh.
Justin Paul Williams, 29, died from injuries he suffered in that crash, Kidney said.
Williams was driving a 1996 GMC Sonoma pickup northbound on U.S. 177, just south of the Holly Lane exit that connects to Broadway Street, when the accident occurred, Kidney said.
For unknown reasons, Williams’ truck left the highway and rolled several times, he said.
There was little overnight traffic and reportedly no witnesses to report the crash. Kidney said officers on a traffic stop about a mile north heard a crash, went to investigate and located the accident scene.
Tecumseh firefighters and REACT EMS paramedics responded. Kidney said firefighters extricated Williams from the wreckage and REACT crews provided triage care before Williams was placed on a Medi Flight helicopter ambulance for transport to an Oklahoma City hospital.
While en route, Kidney said Williams died from massive injuries. Williams had no passengers; Kidney said police believe Williams was wearing a seat belt.
Tecumseh Police Officer Joe McGirt worked the accident, which remains under investigation, Kidney said.
