A Shawnee police corporal made an arrest and was aided by two citizens as he chased down a suspect who allegedly took sunglasses, an energy drink and a can of deodorant from Walgreen’s.
A police report shows Cpl. Bricen Mohr became involved in a foot pursuit of a suspected shoplifter from the Walgreen’s, 1427 N. Harrison, about 8:56 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The foot chase went west through the Del Plaza Shopping Center parking lot, where the suspect allegedly ran into a postal truck and hit the side mirror of that truck, causing it to break. The foot pursuit continued west to Tucker Street; Cpl. David Powell’s report shows Mohr caught and handcuffed the suspect in the 1400 block of North Tucker.
In his possession, the suspect had a pair of sunglasses with the price tag still on them, the report shows, along with a 2-pack energy drink and a can of deodorant in his coat pocket.
Police also found the man had a syringe in his front pants pocket.
The suspect was transported to the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center on a complaint of possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was cited for petit larceny and resisting arrest, and was later released from jail. Formal charges have not been filed.
