SHAWNEE, Okla. —
A city of Shawnee employee driving home from work late Friday night alerted authorities about smoke in the area of 10th and Philadelphia streets, which led to the discovery of a house fire.
Smoke was in the area, but it was unknown where it was coming from. Firefighters arrived and saw smoke venting from the attic vent of a duplex at 307 N. Philadelphia. Firefighters were quick making entry into the home, knocking down a fire in the kitchen area.
No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported. The adjoining duplex, with a “For rent” sign in the window, appeared vacant.
At press time, fire crews hadn’t determined an official cause of the blaze and were still working the scene.
