SHAWNEE, Okla. —

John R. “Jack” Thorpe, youngest son of Jim Thorpe and former Sac and Fox Nation principal chief, will provide a retrospective about his father at 7 p.m. May 23 at the Sac and Fox Nation Multi-Purpose Community Center, 215 N. Harrison in Shawnee.
A reception will be held at 6 p.m., before the presentation.
The event is in recognition of Jim Thorpe’s birthday, which is May 22, and in conjunction with the “Homelands: Northeast Missouri and the Sac and Fox Journey Home” exhibit on display at the Multi-Purpose Community Center through the end of May.
The Multi-Purpose Community Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will be open until 8 p.m. today, May 22 and 23 and May 29 and 30.
The exhibit was created in partnership between the Sac and Fox Nation and the Missouri Humanities Council through a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities.
The community is invited to hear Thorpe speak. For more information, call the Historic Preservation Office at 1-800-259-3970, ext. 1048, or the Sac and Fox Nation Multi-Purpose Community Center at 1-800-259-1266.
