SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Living in Oklahoma gives one a chance to enjoy the outdoors, scenery, and our many waterways. We have chosen to live in the country to walk or ride horses and enjoy the outdoors. Besides being beautiful it could be very educational for our children.

Unfortunately, when walking/riding along the river waterways, all you see is garbage, trash and dead animals. If the waterways were cleaned up and kept cleaned up, they would also be a very good educational tool for our children. I wonder what would happen to county dwellers, if they decided to dump all the trash and garbage in the back yards of city dwellers.

Second, people get dogs and love them for a while, then for some unknown reason, they decided they donít want them any longer. They spend their whole, short life, in the back yard, with someone feeding them and watering them. They have no idea how to take care of themselves. Then one day, the owners take them for a ride in the car, and the pets are very excited about going for a ride, when suddenly, they are put out of the car, and the pet lays down, waiting for their master to return. Every car or truck that looks like their master’s car, they jump up, wagging their tails, thinking, they are back, only to be left behind. They lay down and wait. After about two or three days, hunger and thirst sets in. They start walking, looking for help, water and food. Some of the dogs get run over the first day on their own, but most of them wonder around until they starve to death or get shot. Whatever ending they come to, it is a very sad ending for an animal that knows nothing but unconditional love.
