SHAWNEE, Okla. —

To the Editor:
In case you’ve been hidden in a hole this week, Congress passed a $700 billion “bailout” bill that benefits everyone from Wall Street to wool researchers to rum producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. In case you don’t know: Fallin, Boren, Cole, Sullivan and Coburn voted for the bailout. Normally, I am a supporter of the Republicans, but I lost what little respect I had for them Thursday.
Before you Democrats say I am finally coming around — ease up. I had no respect for your leadership and party anyway. Starting way back in 1977, Jimmy Carter started this snowball rolling down the hill with his Community Reinvestment Act. Are Democrats the only ones to blame? No.
The Republicans had their chances to shut the whole mess down, but they used it to buy votes as well. So where do we go from here? Teach your kids to work hard and teach them to be frugal with their money. The hard workers will be the ones getting the jobs that are left, and the frugal ones will be the ones to get through this financial debacle. Congratulations to Wall Street, the wool researchers, rum producers, alternative energy, and the wooden arrow manufacturers of Oregon. You guys got what you wanted and the rest of us got the bill.
