Global warming issue hot topic

To the Editor:
Several local letter writers are rabid in their hatred of anyone attempting to curtail global warming.  One of them makes a lot of money from oil companies and the others seem to have photographic memories of all the Hoover Institute publications.
I have never heard  any scientist say that climate change is not occurring.  The real question is whether it is caused or exacerbated by human enterprise. I personally believe it is, but will concede that climate change has been occurring since the world began and that some natural forces have been the cause and are the cause.  It’s the chicken and the egg thing.
Thursday there was an article in the paper about Beijing pollution levels dropping dramatically because Chinese officials stopped half the cars from entering the capital and shut down several factories which  were spewing unhealthy emissions. In other words, the Chinese have evidently found a way to lower pollution levels and that method involves curtailment of the use of fossil fuels.   
Pollution is detrimental to our health,  and “green technology” is an opportunity for cleaner air and the creation of a product America can sell the world. The world wants to keep producing the products we all use and enjoy and “green technology” can help us do that while also lowering pollution levels. Let’s tell the folks who want to keep digging us into a hole full of stagnant, polluted air that we want change.
