Second guessing cause of war

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

To the Editor:
Like a lot of Americans, I first believed the war in Iraq was justified. I didn’t think Colin Powell could be made to lie about the situation and I signed on. It didn’t take long to realize the American people had been taken for a ride. If Iraq had WMD, they have long since been either buried in the sand or moved into Syria we may never know. What is for sure is the war in Iraq had to be related to its oil reserves and to create a path to the oil industry in the United States.
What happened was a surprise showing of force from the followers of Osama bin Laden that soon escalated into a full-blown war. Now we are approaching the election of a new president with our financial future looking rather bleak from the bottom of the treasury. We are told of a huge deficit that will be left for the next president and a need to raise the debt level to be able to continue to borrow as we spend our grandchildren’s futures.
Someone has to wake up and smell the roses. We are selling the country piece by piece and beer by beer to the point that we will be renters in our houses if this continues. Bush has done a terrible job as president spending us into the poor house. What lies around the corner could be almost as bad for the nation’s treasury in the form of Barrack Hussein Obama. With him he has told us of his plans to tax the wealthy and give to the poor. This is a sure way to increase the number of poor among us.
His plans are from the socialist handbook and do little to encourage the formation of wealth that is needed in the economic world. Governments can only tax wealth and sometimes this tax can do more harm than good. The only other way is for the government to own and operate the economy while setting standards for wealth accumulation for it’s citizens. Now we’re talking real socialism as in China for example. That seems to be the path this crop of Democrats are on.
Slowly, but surely, we are giving up our freedoms to our government. This next election will maybe contain the answers to a lot of our questions for the future.
