SHAWNEE, Okla. —

To the Editor:
Al Gore’s latest proposal is to reduce carbon emissions (90 percent) by eliminating all hydrocarbon fuels (i.e. natural gas, coal, gasoline, diesel etc.) by 2050. We would pay for his plan via a carbon tax costing between $17 trillion and $22 trillion over the long haul (according to environmental economist William Nordhaus).
The entire global economy is about $50 trillion. Al Gore is more than just a “loose cannon environmentalist,” he could become a threat to our national security and the economy. He has the support of the United Nations Climate Panel and many in Congress. He is confident that he can pull this off, knowing that most people are not knowledgeable enough to dispute his argument. The Iraqi war cost would be a drop in the bucket to what Gore’s plan would cost taxpayers. Will common sense prevail? The following is information that has been published but not often enough and never enough in local newspapers so that everyone can know the facts.
More than 31,000 U.S. scientists, including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s (in fields such as atmospheric science, climatology, earth science, environment and dozens of other specialties) have signed a petition rejecting “global warming,” the U.N.’s assumption that human production of greenhouse gases is damaging Earth’s climate. This is 15 times more scientists than are supporting the U.N. campaign. “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane or other greenhouse gases is causing or will in the foreseeable future cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of Earth’s climate,” states the petition. In fact, there is substantial evidence that increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide produces many beneficial effects. It is my hope that the truth will prevail and people will see Al Gore for who he really is, an ex-politician who couldn’t even carry his own state of Tennessee in the presidential election, now a snake oil salesman. Who will people believe, the people who are paid to promote the human caused global warming agenda or scientists who are neutral and seek only the truth? If God is real (and I believe He is), humans will not destroy the Earth that He created.
