United States must buy back the country

To the Editor:
Sometimes I wonder how so few can mess it up for so many. We have a Republican uprising going on at this time because the Democratic Speaker of the House closed shop and went on vacation while the rest of us are being squeezed at the gas pump.
This is a good example of how non-partisan politics works in this country. Where have these people been? They must have had their heads in the sand to not realize that we are falling farther and farther behind in the energy game. It took a price of more than $4 a gallon to set off their alarm clocks. Now we can hear from the Republicans how they will drill us out of this mess if only the Democrats will say the word, which they won’t unless a gun is put to their heads.
This brand of politics is ruining this country’s ability to make a life for its citizens. Power struggles such as this over drilling is nothing but political payback to special interests, such as environmentalists. It doesn’t matter that all of these price increases are the result of stupid decisions made for political reasons and not with the people’s interest in mind.
Corn for ethanol comes to mind as a good example. This was, and is still, one that will starve many. We still lack an energy plan that will reduce imported oil and give us alternative fuels.
We may never eliminate oil used as a source of energy but we can reduce the dollars going overseas to our Muslim friends in the East, not to mention our South American friends. We must reduce our national debt which, at this time, is more than $9.5 trillion and buy back our country.
