Electing McCain would be delusional

To the Editor:
Bush is preparing to kick start World War III by positioning our missile defense shield on Russian borders. I marvel at how our country arrived at this moment. As a psychologist of nearly 30 years, I see our government as the parent figures of a national dysfunctional family system. In our last two elections, we have sanctioned the current “father of our country,” a self-confessed “recovering alcoholic,” running us into irreversible debt, gambling with money our country does not have and creating worldwide disdain. Yet, we seem surprised the country is unraveling.
We are more concerned with irrelevant political extramarital affairs than the insidious nature of alcoholism. In the 12-step model, alcoholism is something that you always live with, and it affects the capacity for healthy relationships. If we look through this lens at how George Bush has conducted himself for these past eight years, we should be alarmed that this is who we put in office and this is who is about to wage another devastating war just prior to an election. This current administration is addicted to war just like it is addicted to power, oil and money, all pathologies in my book.
Even more alarming is we might just do it again with John McCain. We have commended McCain for surviving five years in a POW camp, as if this makes him somehow more fit for being a president. Instead, we should look at the statistics regarding Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and POWs.
I have worked for decades with Vietnam vets suffering from the affects of trauma and war and you will find that no one fully recovers from PTSD, which creates a series of neurological triggers for behaviors that are inappropriate in normal life, let alone governing a nation (i.e., mental confusion, triggered anger, rigidity of thinking and psycho-emotional issues).
To put a man in the White House who has a self-confessed anger problem, loves to high-stakes gamble ... that is unless we are all for one more puppet in the White House for the elite to use in their world domination plan. McCain leading our country would be yet another delusional decision on the part of Americans, assuring Armageddon, after which the collapsing economy would be a walk in the park. What are we thinking?
