Libraries offer free workshops on fitness

Pottawatomie County’s Pioneer Libraries are offering free workshops presented by Sonya McDaniel of the OSU Extension Service.
The Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia, and the McLoud Public Library, 133 N. Main, have special Fit for Life programs appropriate for interested teens and adults. Registration is requested for each program. Shawnee library’s phone number is 275-6353; Tecumseh’s is 598-5955.
The program at the Shawnee library Monday at 2 p.m. is Sit and Be Fit. “Couch Potatoes” or anyone who has restricted mobility will learn workout techniques to keep their body and brain active.
Tecumseh library will have the same program April 2 at 10:30 a.m.
The Shawnee library will have a program Berries for Your Brain April 20 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn about the importance of phytochemicals and antioxidants and how the body uses common fruits and vegetables to help body and brain function.
Tecumseh library will have the Berries for Your Brain program April 28 at 6 p.m.
These events are part of the libraries programs designed around healthy living and Fit for Life. The Pioneer Library System is one of 17 organizations across the nation to have received a FIT FOR LIFE grant made possible by the MetLife Foundation and overseen by Libraries for the Future. Fit for Life emphasizes both physical health and brain health.
