Randall Bradley, former music minster at University Baptist Church, is returning to offer a conference on worship on Oct. 10 and 11.
The first session will follow a pot-luck dinner on Saturday evening and is titled: “Worship:  What’s the big deal?” The session will explore the ministry of the church and why worship should be the church’s priority. It will look at worship biblically, historically and theologically. Participants will be challenged to define worship and discover how others have defined worship.
The second session will be during the Sunday morning service at 10:45 on Oct. 11 and the subject will be “Worship:  Behind the Curtain - Exposing the Trappings.” The session will consider the expectations and pre-suppositions that each member brings to worship and explore some of the aspects of worship that most people accept as truth. Particular emphasis will be on the issue of worship and power, and worship as embodied theology.
“From Memory to Imagination” will be the last session on Sunday afternoon. This session will move participants from worship as memory (what we know and have experienced), to what might occur if there were no limits to our imagination. It will dream of worship as God might envision it for us and as it might best reflect both God and the gathered church community.
Dr. Bradley is The Ben H. Williams Professor of Music and the director of the Church Music Program and The Center for Christian Music Studies at the Baylor School of Music.
The public is invited to attend the worship sessions. Please contact University Baptist Church to make reservations for the lunch on Sunday at 405-275-1990.
