Getting your turkey or ham from roaster to platter offers holiday excitement you’d rather not experience. One neat solution is a turkey-lifter utensil. This is two large forks on a hinge whose curved tines reach under the bird. Lifters have two stout grips to handle even heavy birds.

The Gourmac is one of many made of nylon resin and folds flat when not in use. It costs $29 on amazon.com. Similar ones are available in house wares departments.
