University Baptist Church’s upcoming activities continue the church’s outreach both locally and across the globe.
Four members of the youth group, Sarah Cullison, Jennifer Jett, Tyler Swadley, and Taylor Thompson will spend their Fall Break at Camp Barnabus in Missouri assisting with “Barn-a-Break,” a short camp for teenagers with disabilities, ages 16 and up.  UBC youth have been involved with Camp Barnabus for four years.
The youth group volunteers together for one week each summer at the camp and many of the youth have returned to assist for additional camps.
Several of the youth from UBC have also become staff members at the camp for the entire summer.
A group meets in the parlor each Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. to knit, crochet, and sew for community and charity projects.
The group provides afghans for children in the Interfaith Hospitality program and raised $300 for the 2009 Haiti Music Camp last summer by selling hand knitted hats. The group is planning a luncheon /craft sale in November to raise money for the 2010 Haiti Music Camp.
The money raised is used to assist camp faculty with travel expenses and to provide scholarships for students attending the camp.
The GA’s will collect items for Operation Christmas Child from Nov. 7 to Nov. 15.
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has delivered more than 69 million shoe box gifts to needy children around the globe. Church members choose a boy or a girl box and fill the boxes with appropriate toys and personal items.
There will be two short term classes offered in upcoming weeks. One will be on Sunday mornings during the 9:30 Sunday School hour and is titled: Raising Young Girls to be Followers of Christ.
The class is for parents, grandparents or anyone that works with young girls and knows the challenges of raising girls in today’s society. It will begin on Oct. 25 and will be led by Cindy Bartley and Gail Forsee.
The second class will be on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m.  Living Your Strengths  will be facilitated by Monica Mullins and will allow participants to learn better how to use their own God given talents and abilities to better serve the body of Christ.
The cost for the book is $20 and will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and will continue until Dec. 9.
The church will also once again host the annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 3-4:30 p.m.  The event will feature a moon bounce, candy, games, and photos. The Fall Festival is free and open to all families in the Shawnee area.
