SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The Shawnee Twin Lakes Association is hosting a 2009 Keep Oklahoma Beautiful project on the lake Saturday May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The project involves creating a vegetated buffer strip along the shoreline of the Glen Collins Memorial Park to correct and prevent erosion caused by wind and heavy rain.
Prior to the event, the city of Shawnee Parks Department will move a concrete picnic table away from the site and bring in a load of rock that will be used to create riprap along the shore. Then on May 2, volunteers will gather to work nutrients into the soil above the riprap and plant grass and other native plants.
The lake association is in need of volunteers to help with this project. If you are interested and available on May 2 - or if you have a business with employees willing to volunteer - contact association president Linda Agee at 420-2135. Cash donations to help offset the cost of plants and materials are also welcome.
