At 2 a.m. Sunday, it’s time to “fall back” by setting clocks back one hour to observe Daylight Saving Time.
And while Sunday will be a longer day with an extra hour for sleep or fun, firefighters also say it’s a good weekend to install fresh batteries in smoke detectors.
The “Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery” program is intended to save lives by ensuring homes always have working smoke detectors.
Having a working smoke detector reduces the risk of dying in a home fire by half. And while nine out of 10 American homes have smoke detectors, many do not work because of missing or dead batteries.
Firefighters suggest installing and maintaining a working smoke detector outside of every sleep area of a home. Monthly tests are suggested.
