Earlsboro man charged with lewd acts

A 67-year-old Earlsboro man faces a felony charge of lewd molestation or indecent proposals or acts for alleged incidents involving a child who was in his care.
Claude Earl Chambers is charged in Pottawatomie County District Court.
Chambers, the former chairman of the Pottawatomie County Republican party, was arrested in the case Tuesday night. He remained jailed at the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center Wednesday night on a $50,000 bond.
He is accused of knowingly and intentionally looking upon, touching and feeling the body or private parts of the young girl between June 1, 2005, and June 31, 2008, charges allege. He also is accused of causing the child to look and touch the private parts of his person, the court documents allege.
The Pottawatomie County District Attorney’s Office filed charges this week after conducting a follow-up investigation that began Dec. 9. A complaint in June prompted the initial investigation by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
If convicted of the felony charge filed against him, Chambers could face imprisonment for three to 20 years. His next court date hasn’t yet been scheduled.
