A Shawnee man faces charges of concealing stolen property after being arrested by a police detective when allegedly trying to sell an item that had been stolen from a local plumbing business.
Charles Henry Tarver, 47, Tecumseh, is charged in Pottawatomie County District Court with a felony count of knowingly concealing stolen property on Oct. 20. He is accused of concealing a camera pushrod and other items that had allegedly been stolen from M&M Plumbing on Oct. 14.
A police report shows police took a report of a burglary at the business, 301 N. Kickapoo, where as much as $10,000 in equipment was taken.
As part of the follow-up investigation by Shawnee detectives, they received information about a man wanting to sell one of the items that had been reported as stolen, so a detective went to the reported meeting location on Oct. 20, where an arrest was made. Tarver was arrested in the case and jailed, but has since been released after posting bond.
Charges followed and Tarver’s next court appearance is scheduled Dec. 3.
If convicted of knowingly concealing stolen property, Tarver could face imprisonment in a state penitentiary not to exceed five years or not to exceed one year in the county jail, or by a fine no more than $500, or both.
Because Tarver has prior felony convictions for several offenses, including possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, the crime is punishable by imprisonment for three years to life.
