Shawnee police served their first search warrant of the New Year Jan. 1, which lead to the arrest of one man on complaints of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested Jerry William Brashears, 21, at the home, located at 145 N. Rich.
According to a police report, SPD Cpl. Robert Stewart responded to a disturbance call at the address and, while interviewing the parties involved, noticed an odor of what he believed to be marijuana coming from the residence.
Stewart said in the report that he advised the homeowner that he smelled a marijuana-like odor, at which time she said he would have to have a search warrant before entering the house.
A search warrant was obtained and brought to the scene, the report shows.
SPD Detective Ronnie Wilson and Cpl. John Leathers assisted Stewart in searching the residence. During the search, two metal trays – each believed to contain marijuana –  were found beneath a couch, the report states.
A college identification card, with photo, and a casino card, both containing the name “Jerry Brashears,” also were found with the trays. Other paraphernalia, including scales, a “water bong type smoking device that contained burnt marijuana,” and partially burned marijuana cigars also was found at the scene, according to the report.
Field tests of the substances found at the scene revealed a positive result for marijuana.
Brashears was taken to Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center for booking following his arrest.
Another marijuana-related arrest occurred Jan. 2 following a traffic stop conducted by Cpl. Stewart at the 1500 block of North Broadway, a report shows.
Stewart stopped a white Chevrolet van driven by Daniel Ramsay, 42, Shawnee, for expired tags. While Stewart waited for routine record searches for Ramsay, SPD police canine Misho conducted an “exterior sniff” around the vehicle, the report shows.
“My canine indicated the odor of illegal narcotics at the passenger’s side wing glass,” the officer stated in the report.
Ramsay agreed to a search of his vehicle, which did not reveal any illegal narcotics, the report shows. However, officers found a bag containing possible marijuana and rolling papers inside Ramsay’s coat pocket, according to the report.
A field test of the contents of the bag yielded a positive result for marijuana and Ramsay was placed under arrest on a complaint of marijuana possession and taken to PCPSC.
