Today
The Chrysanthemum Unit will meet 9:30 a.m. in the home of Edith Carruth.  Co-hostess is Kelly Wesley and the program will be sponsored by Betty Langston. The Redbud Unit October meeting is canceled this month because of the illness of some members. The Rose Unit will meet 9:30 a.m. in the home of Jane Townsend.  Maureen Trotter will present the program.

Thursday
 The Zinnia Unit will meet 1:30 p.m. at Legacy Park Apts. in the Community Room. Blanche Wilson is the hostess and will also present the program.

The Laureate Alpha Tau chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 7 p.m. at Dianna Knight’s house.

Friday
The opening luncheon for the Shakespeare Club is noon at the Shawnee Country Club. Hostesses are Mrs. Mark Schneiter and Mrs. Doug Combs. Mrs. Paul Milburn, president, will conduct the meeting.

A two-day AARP safe driving class will begin at 1 p.m. at the Shawnee Senior Center, 10th and Bell streets. The class will continue at 1 p.m. Oct. 8. The class is open to all licensed drivers, and all who complete the class will be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. The cost of the class is $10, and those participating can bring a friend to enroll at no extra charge.

Saturday
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church will host a bean supper 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, on the corner of 9th and Center, in Shawnee.  The menu will be brown and white beans, cornbread, coleslaw, homemade desserts, tea and coffee. Costs are $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. All profits are donated to local and extended missionaries.

Tuesday
Shawnee High School class of 1958 reunion committee will meet 6:30 p.m. at Van’s Pig Stand on East Highland.

The Parish Guild meeting scheduled 1 p.m. today at St. Benedict has been changed. The Parish Guild will meet instead at 11:15 a.m. at the Expo Center for a free luncheon and speaker.

Oct. 15
The Junior Service League Inc. of Shawnee is accepting applications for fall allocations. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply for funding. Deadline is Oct. 15. Call or e-mail for an application. Call Tonya Ricks at 405-306-0224 or e-mail Camille Pfeiff at cpfeiff@shawnee.k12.ok.us.
