SHAWNEE, Okla. —

A motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon in a collision with a pickup in north Pottawatomie County, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Cpl. Dan Shumaker with Shawnee Police Department said the 27-year-old Lincoln County man was traveling north on SH 18, and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by a Shawnee teenager was traveling west on Wolverine Road when the accident occurred at about 2 p.m. The two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the motorcyclist died at the scene, Shumaker said.
The motorcyclist’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Shumaker said the 17-year-old driver of the pickup, whose name was not released, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the accident. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
Northbound and southbound traffic on SH 18 was reduced to one lane through the intersection as officials worked the scene. Westbound and eastbound traffic on Wolverine Road was diverted along SH 18 away from the intersection.
Shumaker said the accident is still being investigated by Cpl. Shawn Parsons of the Shawnee Police Department. Those responding to the scene included Shawnee police officers, Shawnee firefighters, REACT EMS paramedics, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and tribal police.
