Tecumseh police and task force investigators continue to probe a man’s stabbing death and are asking for any witnesses to contact police.
Tecumseh Police Detective J.R. Kidney said Matthew Weger, 26, died April 16 after suffering a puncture wound to the left chest.
A suspect in the case, Brandon Ray Powers, 31, Shawnee, was booked into the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center Friday on a manslaughter complaint.
The stabbing occurred during a disturbance between the two men about 6:30 p.m. April 16 in the 400-block of North First Street in Tecumseh.
Kidney said it appears Weger was visiting someone at one house on that block while Powers was visiting someone else at another home before an altercation occurred between them. Police said the two men reportedly didn’t know each other prior to this incident.
Authorities are asking for anyone who was present during that disturbance or anyone who witnessed the altercation to call police, Kidney said.
Anyone with information should call Tecumseh police at 598-3755.
Once complete, investigative reports in the case will be turned over to the district attorney’s office for consideration of any formal charges.
