The Shawnee Police Department will host a Citywide Neighborhood Watch community meeting 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gordon Cooper Technology Center auditorium.
The purpose is to expand the Neighborhood Watch program by increasing participation and awareness, and Tuesday’s topic is about personal safety.
Neighborhood Watch is a nationwide program that empowers community residents to be additional eyes and ears in the city. The Shawnee Police Department facilitates monthly meetings. These meetings provide a public forum for residents, the individual Neighborhood Watch groups and the Shawnee Police Department.
Neighborhood Watch works on the premise that home and residential security responsibilities are shared by law enforcement and residents. The Shawnee Police Department will offer training in the upcoming months on several subjects, such as home security; item identification; newsletters and crime prevention literature; block captain training; and special events for watch members.
