Hitting triple sevens is a guaranteed win in many casinos, but Hadley Griffith’s parents will take their chances with four eights when it comes to luck today as their daughter celebrates turning 8 years old Aug. 8, 2008.
“It’s pretty cool for me,” Hadley said. “It’s not every day you have a birthday with lots of eights in it.”
Her parents, Matt and Twana Griffith, said they didn’t really think about Hadley’s eighth birthday involving so many eights. Hadley said she knew it would happen eventually, but this is not what she imagined.
“I knew that some day I would turn 8 on the 8th, but not like this with so many eights,” she said. “It’s big.”
Hadley and her family celebrated her birthday and her sister Morley’s birthday with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge in Texas. Morley turned 4 on Aug. 5. For her birthday, Hadley received plenty of gifts, but she isn’t sure what they will do on her birthday to commemorate the eights of the day.
“I think it will have something to do with a big eight cake,” she said with a smile on her face.
Twana said the family will definitely involve the number 8 in the celebration.
“It’s our lucky day,” she said.
Hadley also will be treated to her favorite breakfast of bacon, eggs and cinnamon toast, along with Chinese food for lunch.
Hadley said she will have friends over for a craft party and cookie baking.
She is a student at Dale Public Schools. She has received recognition for Citizen of the Month, Scholar of the Month and Achiever of the Month.
In her free time, Hadley enjoys riding four-wheelers, playing with her American Girl dolls, playing on the computer and riding horses. Hadley is active in 4-H and has received a 4-H blue ribbon in speech.
Hadley said she wants to be an artist when she is older. She said she plans to study science because her father told her many scientists are good at art.
“I can use my science knowledge, know what it is supposed to look like and create art about it,” Hadley said.
