“Igor:” This playfully irreverent comedy brings a new twist to the classic monster genre. It tells the story of a mad scientist’s hunchbacked lab assistant who has big dreams of becoming a scientist in his own right and winning the coveted first-place award at the annual Evil Science Fair. Voiced featured in this animated film are John Cusack, Molly Shannon, Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall, John Cleese and others. (PG: for some thematic elements, scary images, action and mild language)
“My Best Friend’s Girl:” Smart, beautiful and headstrong, Alexis is the girl of Dustin’s dreams. But after only five weeks of dating, the lovestruck Dustin is coming on so strong that Alexis is forced to slow things down — permanently. Devastated and desperate to get her back, Dustin turns to his best friend, Tank, the rebound specialist. A master at seducing, and offending, women, Tank gets hired by freshly dumped guys to take their ex-girlfriends out on the worst date of their lives — an experience so horrible it sends them running gratefully back to their beaus. (R: for strong language and sexual content throughout, including graphic dialogue and some nudity)
“Righteous Kill:” After 30 years as partners in the pressure cooker environment of the NYPD, highly decorated Detectives David Fisk and Thomas Cowan should be ready for retirement, but aren’t. Before they can hang up their badges, they are called in to investigate the murder of a notorious pimp, which appears to have ties to a case they solved years before. Like the original murder, the victim is a suspected criminal whose body is found accompanied by a four-line poem justifying the killing. When additional crimes take place, it becomes clear the detectives are looking for a serial killer, one who targets criminals that have fallen through the cracks of the judicial system. His mission is to do what the cops can’t do on their own — take the culprits off the streets for good. Starring are Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, 50 Cent and Donnie Wahlberg. (R: for pervasive language, some sexuality and brief drug use)
“Babylon A.D.:” A veteran turned mercenary (Vin Diesel) agrees to escort a woman from Russia to Germany, not realizing that she’s the host for an organism that a cult wants to harvest into a genetically modified Messiah. Based on the novel by Maurice G. Dantec. (PG-13: for intense sequences of violence and action, language and some sexuality)
“Death Race:” Three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames is an expert at survival in a harsh landscape. Just as he thinks he has turned his life around, the ex-con is framed for a gruesome murder he didn’t commit. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein — a crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill — Ames is given an easy choice by Terminal Island’s warden: suit up or rot away in a cell. His face hidden by a metallic mask, the convict will be put through an insane three-day challenge. Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals in the country’s toughest prison to claim the prize of freedom. Driving a monster car outfitted with machine guns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers, this desperate man will destroy anything in his path to win the most twisted spectator sport on Earth. Jason Statham stars. (R: for strong violence and language)
“The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor:” The “Mummy” franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for this next chapter in the adventure series. Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O’Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O’Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse that threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service. (PG-13: for adventure action and violence)
