"Monsters vs. Aliens" opens with an old 3-D gag: A ball bounces directly into the audience, causing moviegoers to instinctively scoot back in their seats. But the resemblance to old-fashioned 3-D ends there.

The Shawnee community is invited to a viewing of the film “Inside/Out” that will be shown at three family nights held at two elementary schools, Jefferson on Monday, and Horace Mann on March 26 and Shawnee Middle School March 30. All activities will start at 6:30 p.m.
Jones Theatres Inc. and Legends 1450 KGFF Radio are joining forces again to present the annual “Cans” Film Festival, a special movie showing today to collect canned goods for The Salvation Army holiday food baskets.
The movie “Kung Fu Panda,” rated PG, will be shown at the Hornbeck Theatre, 125 N. Bell in downtown Shawnee.
The showing is before the annual Christmas parade. Cost of admission is two cans of non-perishable food per person.
Doors will open at 3:45 p.m. and the movie begins at 4:15 p.m. The movie will be over by 5:45 p.m., in time for the parade at 6:30 p.m.

“The Forbidden Kingdom” is a martial arts/fantasy story that finally unites two of the most prolific kung-fu actors (Jackie Chan and Jet Li) in one movie. The film is directed by Rob Minkoff, working from John Fusco’s script, and costars Michael Angarano (“Almost Famous”) and Collin Chou. Most of the film is filmed on-location in China, with Peter Pau’s cinematography and Yuen Woo Ping’s action choreography highlighting the slightly tame direction.
