The Bethel Fire Department is one step closer to receiving new equipment.

On Tuesday, the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners awarded Deep South Fire Trucks the contract to complete the fabrication of a 3,500-gallon skid unit.

In December, Cooper Creek Manufacturing submitted a bid for $123,750 and Deep South Fire's bid came in at $144,050.

Deep South was selected to complete the project because Cooper Creek's bid was unable to complete the project to bid requirements due to tank specifications.

In other commission news:

In December, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office received approval to replace two wrecked vehicles, one being a Dodge Durango that was involved in a collision with a cow.

The sheriff's office will now be accepting bids to replace the Durango with a used vehicle including a police package.
