Monday, Jan. 6, 1947, at 6:30 p.m. in the home of Reverend Riley and Ruby Simpson, Joel Thomas Catlett and Clarrissia Alleene Lee were united in marriage with all the blessings of their pastor, parents and God.

Joel was an employee of Tinker Air Force Base, and they made Shawnee their home.

God blessed them with two precious babies: Linda Alleene and Joel Thomas Jr.

They believe God guided them to the First Christian Church, where R. Scott and Mona Baird were the minister. Those two played an important part in their lives, with both children being married in the church by Reverend Scott Baird.

Joel retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1981 with 37 years. Clarrissia retired from Southwestern Bell in 1987.

The biggest mountain God gave them was when Linda lost her battle with cancer on Nov. 23, 2015.

The couple was honored by their son and Linda’s daughters, Lisa and Becky, who hosted a reception Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Wesley United Methodist Church. A large host of family and friends, including their pastor Ben and Jeri Williams, were present.

The couple’s grandchildren are Julie Clay, Kane, Joel, Emma, Lisa and Becky. They also have 12 great-grandchildren.
