Edward “Ed” Eugene Wilkins died peacefully at home in Shawnee on Jan. 3, 2017, at the age of 72.

Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce Ann Wilkins, sons, Edward A. Wilkins of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Russell Wilkins and his wife Karen of Alpharetta, Georgia, Andrew and his wife Sandra, and his loving granddaughters Chloe and Phoebe of Meeker. Also, he is survived by his father Thomas Edward Wilkins and brother Larry Wilkins of McLoud.

He was preceded in death by his mother Emma Louise Wilkins and numerous aunts and uncles.

Ed was born on May 30, 1944, in Shawnee to Emma Louise and Thomas Wilkins. He graduated from McLoud in 1962 and married Joyce Ann, his lifelong love, in 1963. The couple welcomed three sons into their home. His children remember him to be a kind-hearted, honest man who valued working hard to provide for his family and instilled in each of them the drive to improve themselves and become self-reliant. When asked about their father, the sons likened their childhood to “Leave It to Beaver.”

Ed was accomplished at bowling and many other sports throughout his life and truly enjoyed being outside working on his yard and various landscaping projects. He was a generous and witty individual who loved helping others in need. He was an active and dedicated member of the New Beginnings Church and often volunteered at bible school.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at New Beginnings Church at 1203 East 42nd St., Shawnee, with a reception to follow at the same location. Pastor Mike Taylor will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ed’s life.

Condolences and floral arrangements may be sent to the church address.

The family would like to thank Jessie and Ashely, the loving nurses from Loving Care Hospice and Central Health Services, and their wonderful staff.
