Shawnee police have arrested a homicide suspect in connection with Wednesday's deadly shooting at Chapel Ridge Apartments.

Early this morning, Shawnee Police Detective Ronnie Wilson said Antonio M. Sambrano, 18, is being held in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center on a complaint of first-degree murder. A formal charge has not yet been filed.

It was just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when emergency crews responded to a shots fired report at building 11 at Chapel Ridge Apartments, 130 E. 45h Street.

In the moments after the shooting, several nearby locations, including Shawnee Middle School, Gordon Cooper Technology Center and even a local daycare center, were reported to be on lockdown.

Shawnee Police Sgt. Dan Shumaker confirmed late Wednesday night that the male shooting victim had died from his wounds and confirmed the case was being investigated as a homicide. While police weren't saying much or releasing any other details about the ongoing investigation Wednesday night, Shumaker said detectives would be continuing their probe throughout the night.

Word of the arrest came early Thursday morning. Sambrano will likely make an initial court appearance today, but he is expected to remain jailed without bond.

Police have not yet released the shooting victim's name but further details about the case are expected from police later today.

This is Shawnee's first homicide of the new year.
