Augustine Spybuck Johnson, 69, resident of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away, Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.

Augustine was born in Concho, Oklahoma, on Aug. 14, 1947, to Woodrow and Minnie (Blanchard) Spybuck.

She grew up in the Little Axe area and graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1966.

Augustine worked for Oklahoma For Indian Opportunities (OIO) and retired after 30 years of service. She also was active in the Absentee Shawnee election commission.

Augustine enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, enjoyed athletics and loved watching her great nieces and nephews play ball. She and her husband enjoyed playing bingo as a pastime. She was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee tribe.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Minnie Spybuck.

Augustine is survived by her husband; Herb Johnson, Sr. of the home; daughter, Shannon Johnson; son, Herbie Johnson; two sisters, JoAnn Watson and Margie Kinsey; nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.

Tribal Rites will be 6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Brendle Corner Community Center with George Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow at Family Home Place Cemetery in Tecumseh under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
