Shawnee resident, Shalawna Dawn Gentry, 33, went to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, in Oklahoma City. She was born July 23, 1983 in Shawnee to Dannie and Melinda (Moudy) Gentry.
Shalawna attended North Rock Creek through 8th grade. She graduated from Bethel High School in 2002. She worked at the Grand Travel Plaza for the past 10 years.
She was very active in her church, Newalla Church of Christ. She participated in LTC (Leadership Training for Christ) as well as Vacation Bible School.
Shalawna loved her family above all else. She was best friends with her Mom, and they did many things together, including VBS, anything with arts and crafts, and simply spending time together. Shalawna and her dad were very close as well and enjoyed hunting together. She had a close relationship with her brother, Preston and his daughter Jaelyn, who was like a daughter to her.
Shalawna was an artist and loved to draw. She enjoyed Tai Chi and also wrote a book for pre-teens that she was trying to get published. She had many cats throughout her life that she loved dearly.
Shalawna had a heart of gold and a kind soul. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Berthal Gentry.
She is survived by her parents, Melinda and Dannie Gentry of the home; brother, Preston Gentry of the home; niece, Jaelyn Gentry; grandparents, Norman and Ethel Moudy of McLoud, and Anna Gentry of Norman; aunts and uncles, Carrie and Roger Tyler, Norman Moudy, Jr., David and Debbie Gentry; cousins, Ethel Moudy, Jerrett and Anna Gentry, Justin and Courtney Gentry and their 3 children; as well as numerous other family members, church family, and friends.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Resthaven Funeral Home with Pastor David Brassfield officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
