Harlene Young, 83, of Eufaula, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.

Former Shawnee resident Harlene Young, 83, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, in Eufaula.

Harlene was a descendent of the Sam Houston Family. She was born on Oct. 15, 1933, in Konawa to Harley and Verda (Bunch) Houston. She was an only child, and her mom died when she was a little girl. She was raised by her father and her grandmother in the Konawa area.

Harlene graduated from Konawa High School and attended Oklahoma Baptist University. She received her LPN from Gordon-Cooper.

She married the love of her life, Charles Vernon Young, and he helped her raise her four children from her previous marriage. He adored her and made sure she and the children never went without.

Harlene loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She had a passion for cooking, and the highlight of her life was cooking dinner on Thursday nights for her grandsons and their football teammates.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Young; sons, Rickey Reed and Gary Reed; grandsons, David Reed and Michael Reed.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Ann Reed, Kelly and Vaidehi Reed, and Sherri Reed; grandchildren, Christopher Charles Reed, Richard Patrick Reed, Brian Michael Reed, and Sean Thomas Reed; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Sammy Reed, Richard and Jean Higley, and Jimmy and Mary Young.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
