ADA — Ada’s defense was tough in the half court and in the press Tuesday night to snap Shawnee’s seven-game win streak.
The 4A No. 3 Lady Cougars kept Shawnee out of rhythm all night as they went on to get a 50-40 win.
Logan Bonner got the Lady Wolves on the board with an early 3-pointer, but Ada responded with seven-straight points to take the lead. They led 13-10 after one period and 23-17 at the half. Makyra Tramble - who is normally a leading scorer for Shawnee - only had two points in the half as Ada forced the ball away from her.
But in the third period, Tramble found some openings and scored eight of her team-high total of 13 points.
Shawnee still trailed by five - 33-28 - at the end of the third period thanks to a buzzer-beating three pointer by Ada’s McKenzie Dean.
The Lady Cougars stretched the lead to 3730 before Shawnee rallied for five straight points. After Ada scored, Bonner got a steal and a layup to cut the lead to two points.
But the Lady Cougars finished strong and held off 5A No. 4 Shawnee 5040.
Tramble led the Lady Wolves with 13 and Kasey Rice had 10 points. Ashley Kastarke had seven as did Bonner. Mackaila Palmore had two and Kyla Tarpey added one.
