Paul Edward Lewis, 79, was born on Jan. 16, 1938, in Vian, Oklahoma, to Ed and Elsie (Cook) Lewis. He died on Feb. 2, 2017, at his home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.

Paul was raised in Warner, Oklahoma, and graduated from Warner High School in 1956. He graduated from Connors Junior College in 1958, and completed his bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Northeastern State College in 1962. He then completed his master’s degree in education at Northeastern State College in 1970, and went on to obtain his public school superintendent requirements from the University of Tulsa.

Paul married Dolly Delores (Roberts) Lewis on May 2, 1957, and they had three children, Pamela René, Paul David, and Martin Edward.

Paul began his 30-year career in public education in August 1962, at Milfay, Oklahoma, where he taught high school math and coached both boys and girls in several sports. In 1963, he went to Kellyville, Oklahoma, where for the next 10 ½ years he taught high school math, coached both boys and girls in several sports, and served as elementary principal. In his years at Kellyville, his baseball teams amassed almost 500 wins, were state runner-up in 1966, and had several state tournament appearances. Even though he was never formally recognized by his peers or the press, his baseball program at Kellyville was known as one of the best in the state of Oklahoma at the time. In 1973, Paul and Dolly took their family to Dale, Oklahoma, where he began his first job as a school superintendent. During his 18 years at Dale, Paul along with many outstanding board members, staff members, students and a wonderful community, developed Dale into one of the finest school systems in Oklahoma. Paul also served as interim superintendent at Bethel Public Schools for four months at the end of the 2004-2005 school year.

In June of 1991, Paul retired from public education and he and Dolly moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where he remained until his death. While living in Arkansas, Paul became one of the top senior amateur golfers in the state, winning numerous tournaments and qualifying twice for the U.S. Senior Amateur, in 1996 and 1997.

On April 19, 2009, the void in Paul’s life, left after Dolly’s passing, was filled when he married Mle Tipton. They had seven wonderful years together, traveling, enjoying grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and most of all, each other’s company.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Elsie; an infant sister, Norma Ray; his son, David; and his grandson, Kyle (son of Marty and Kelly).

He is survived by his wife, Mle of the home; his children, Pam Dellinger of Norman, Oklahoma, and Marty and his wife, Kelly Lewis, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; his brother, Buddy and his wife, Billie Lewis, of Okay, Oklahoma; his sisters, Wanda Lewis Shanks, of Warner, Oklahoma, Carol and her husband, Art Kveck, of Euless, Texas, Deborah Lewis, of Garland, Texas, and Delsie Lewis, of Muskogee, Oklahoma; his step-daughters, Jill Miller of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jeanene and her husband Mansel Holmes of Shreveport, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. He is also survived by many other loving family members and wonderful friends from a life well lived.
