Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said officers tracking a murder suspect from Norman heard a gunshot and found a person who died of a gunshot wound. He said officers were waiting for confirmation that the person who died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound is Timothy Deffner - a suspect in a Norman murder. The sheriff's office provided that confirmation to the Norman Police Department soon afterward.

Sheriff Booth said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Helicopter had spotted the person during the manhunt. After hearing the gunshot, the helicopter was able to zoom in and see that the person wasn't moving.

The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's office along with many other law enforcement agencies were involved in a manhunt in the area of Bethel Road and Highland Road near Tecumseh after a Norman murder suspect's vehicle was discovered at this location.
