Several school board races were decided during Tuesday's elections, including one of Shawnee's two incumbents being defeated, although a runoff will be needed in McLoud.

In the race for Shawnee Board of Education, Office No. 5 incumbent Gerry Pfeil was defeated by Mark Betterton, who had 244 votes, or 56.48 percent. Pfeil had 188 votes or 42.52 percent.

Bobby Canty, the incumbent for Shawnee Board of Education, Office No. 7, won re-election with 234 votes or 54.67 percent. Chad Self had 194 votes or 45.33 percent.

Other school board elections results are as follows:

• Bethel, Office No. 2: David Elmore had 116 votes, or 67.84 percent, to defeat Bryan Newell, who had 55 votes, or 32.16 percent.

• South Rock Creek, Office No. 2: Melissa Mahaffey won with 42 votes, or 91.30 percent over Monroe Bud Jeffrey, who had 4 votes, or 8.70 percent.

• Tecumseh Office No. 2: Shawn Fleming won that race with 73 votes, or 80.22 percent. Jim Brenner had 18 votes, or 19.78 percent.

• Meeker, Office No. 2: Bret Wood won that race with 119 votes, or 63.98 percent. Jessica Gabeau had 67 votes, or 36.02 percent.

• McLoud, Office No. 2: A runoff will be needed in McLoud on April 4 between Melanie Krause and Steven M. Swartz. Both tied with 109 votes, or 40.98 percent. The third candidate, Jeannene Williams, had 48 votes, or 18.05 percent.

• Strother, Office No. 2: Travis Gillespie defeated Heath Sapp with 93 votes, or 61.18 percent. Sapp had 59 votes, or 38.82 percent.
