St. Gregory’s University student Beth McHale will debut her senior art show on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Student Life Lounge located in the Rockwood Center on St. Gregory’s campus in Shawnee. The general public is invited to meet the artist and enjoy refreshments during the free exhibition.

A senior visual arts major from Liverpool, England, McHale’s exhibition will include paintings, drawings, photographs and assemblage sculptures depicting images of places and things she has witnessed throughout her travels around the world. She traveled across the United States to Oklahoma, Texas, New York, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Ohio and Missouri. Her travels have also taken her to Canada, Mexico, several European countries including Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Greece, Cypress and Russia.

McHale’s exhibition will be a testament to her travels and the lessons she’s learned along the way. She chose the theme Life Is Just a Journey as a reminder of quote she follows in her day-to-day life.

“This quote helps me keep going through the hard times. I tell myself that life is JUST a journey, a stepping stone, and everything happens for a reason. Traveling to me is having the opportunity to experience the beautiful things in the world that can be overlooked. I have been to places that are simply breath-taking; no picture comes close to actually being there and witnessing it yourself,” said McHale. “Traveling the world has pushed me out of my comfort zone, helped me adapt to different cultures and allowed me to meet some incredible people.”

McHale’s hope is that the audience will see a piece of her personal journey through her artwork and the important role her family plays in her life.

“I hope my artwork shows people that there are so many great experiences around the world. All of my pieces are very personal and show a piece of myself, and I hope people see that life is a gift,” said McHale. “I also hope people see the role my family plays in my life. They are extremely loving and supporting of my goals. Everything I do, I do for them.”

McHale is a member of St. Gregory’s women’s soccer team and is also majoring in kinesiology. She was named to the Deans Honor Roll in 2015 and was on the academic all-conference honor roll at St. Gregory’s in 2015 and 2016. She was also on the athletic all-conference first team in 2016. Her other exhibitions in Liverpool include "The Untold" at New Heys Comprehensive Secondary School in 2011, "Hide Out” at Enterprise South Liverpool Academy in 2012, and "Form”  at View Two Gallery in 2013.

“Beth is an extraordinary young woman.  Her travels have given her much insight and maturity, and her work demonstrates her fascination with the many people and ideas she has encountered during her travels. We hope that many people will come to see his exhibition and enjoy the reception on Friday night,” said Sheryl Cozad, Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts.

McHale’s work will be on display through March 10. For more information on the McHale’s exhibit, please contact Sheryl Cozad at secozad@stgregorys.edu or (405) 878-5162.
