Greetings go forth just as spring is beginning to erupt, bringing forth twigs of green, green grass peeping through the crust of dry earth.

Greetings go forth just as spring is beginning to erupt, bringing forth twigs of green, green grass peeping through the crust of dry earth.

Scattered across the lawn, small blades of green, beneath bright yellow blossoms, can be seen popping up, bringing forth smiles as spring bursts forth in full color.

All of this rural Oklahoma beauty is quite comforting, compared to the news of all the turmoil going on in the far off countries of Syria, just above Israel.

All of the news, depicting the action bursting forth in Syria, reminds me of one of my trips, covering Jordan, Israel, Syria and Italy. It is sad to see what is going on in Damascus, as I recall walking down the streets of Damascus and in surrounding area.

The turmoil here in America is nothing compared to those countries, but the anger, disrespect for our flag, nation and cities, reminds me of a generation that has been raised without discipline and/or regular church attendance.

For years I was a Sunday School and Vacations Bible School teacher and volunteer in numerous organizations in Texas, Alaska, Virginia and Oklahoma, which offered assistance and aid to many citizens. Over the last twenty years, I have seen the decay of family life in America, such as us, senior citizens have known.

In the 1900’s, families lived close to other family members, who were on hand if a family member was sick or if the children needed care. Neighbors knew each other, visited and often helped with children, when both parents were working.

In later years, families began to just have one parent, usually the mother, as divorces became a common thing in society. The mother had to work away from the home, with grandparents assisting with the children’s care.

In the next decade, families were scattered all across the United States, with no extended families living close, and children were sent to day care or to a baby sitter. Single mothers, with no grand-parents near to assist with the children and no time for church, left many to roam the streets or left alone at home.

Neglected and un-disciplined, with no respect for anyone or any one’s property, chaos has entered the streets and shopping centers, leaving chaos and destruction behind.

No one’s at home, praying. Many churches have empty pews. Why? God’s name has been used in obscenity. Prayers have been omitted at bed time. Blessings for food have gone unsaid.

Psalms 51:10 – “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
