Justus Martin, 83, of Shawnee, passed away March 16, 2017, peacefully in his sleep.

Justus Martin, 83, of Shawnee, passed away March 16, 2017, peacefully in his sleep.

Justus was born in Shawnee on Aug. 4, 1933, to Don Martin and Grace Carpenter Martin.

He attended Bethel Schools and left early to join the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War. Once returning home, he learned the construction trade from his Uncle Orval Carpenter.

Justus and his dad loved to go to the horse races, and in 1988 he wrote The Solution of Pari-Mutuel Odds.

Justus married Linda Martin (Trotter) on Aug. 12, 1969. They were married 47 years.

Justus is survived by wife Linda Martin, his two children Justine Martin Warren and Jason Martin: his three grandchildren Joshua Baxley, Jacob Warren, and Ashlynn Martin., and his aunt Jackie Madole, his niece Marie Martin and his nephew Phillip Martin, and several cousins, and great nieces and nephews.

Justus is preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Roberta Martin, brother Hugh Albert (Chuck) Martin, nephew Randy Martin, and niece Laura Jo Martin.

Justus enjoyed playing dominos and cards with his family and friends. There will be a domino party at a family member's house in his honor Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m.
