On Friday, Oklahoma Highway Patrol released a teletype regarding the boating incident that claimed the life of a teenager at Prague Lake on Thursday.

The deceased individual was a 15-year old male from Depew. The patrol did not release his name.

The other juvenile involved was a 13-year old from Leedey.

On Thursday afternoon OHP and the Prague Police Department responded to a call that two juvenile males were involved in a boating incident at Prague Lake. OHP has reported that one of the boys had drowned.

Trooper Dennis Dickens reported that at 11:20 a.m. the OHP received a call that two juveniles in a one-person kayak had capsized. One of the boys was able to make it to shore, where he ran to a nearby road, waved down a passing vehicle and called for help.

At around 3:20 p.m., Dickens reported the OHP had discovered the body of the second boy roughly 70 feet from shore in water that was 10 feet deep.

Dickens said the wind had increased throughout the day causing whitecaps, which most likely caused unsafe conditions.

Family members on scene said this was the second death in the family within the last six months.

Neither juvenile was wearing a life jacket, Dickens said.
