Nanette “Nan” (Smith) Lang, 63, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, in Shawnee.

Nanette “Nan” (Smith) Lang, 63, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, in Shawnee.

She was born July 12, 1953, in Weleetka to Forrest “Sonny” and LaDean (Sheppard) Smith.

Nan’s father worked in the oilfield and she was raised in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in 1970 in Alice, Texas.

She was working as a hostess in a restaurant in Ardmore, when she met her future husband, Darrell Lang, who was working in the oilfields at the time. They were married on Nov. 8, 1973, in Midland, Texas. Nan and Darrell started their family in Lone Grove and lived throughout Oklahoma before settling in the Dale community in 1991.

Nan worked in banking as a Customer Service Representative at First United Bank and First National Bank. She taught Spanish, was the cheerleading coach and operated the cafeteria at Moore Christian Academy.

She served as Chairman of Beckham County Red Cross for two years in Elk City. Nan was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Church in Shawnee where she and Darrell volunteered in the nursery. Nan had an infectious smile and loved babies and they loved her, you rarely saw her without a baby in her arms. Nan and Darrell also served as foster parents for 32 children. Nan loved her family very much and she enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren; they were the highlight of her life.

Nan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Don Lang; and brother, Charles Eric “Ric” Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Darrell Lang of the home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Johnny Radford of Dale, Jason Lang of Shawnee, Jared Lang of Shawnee and Joshua and Sommer Lang of McLoud; nine grandchildren, Darren and Becky Radford, Gracee Waller, Tanner Lang, Tyler Lang, Zayne Lang, Dylan Lang, Danyn Lang, Daley Lang and Daxly Lang; one great-grandson, Weston Radford; and her loving church family and other loving extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Cooper Funeral Home. Family gathering will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 18, at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Faith Christian Outreach Church in Shawnee with Pastor Travis Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
