Shawnee Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Brent Houston offers an update regarding the $32 million school bond improvements for the district.

“There has been considerable activity related to the parking lot at the high school,” he said. “Crews began removing old paving right after the Memorial Day weekend and work there continues.”

Houston said the board has approved bids for the projects at Sequoyah and Horace Mann.

“Roof work has already begun at Sequoyah,” he said.

Horace Mann's playground equipment has already been removed and will be in storage until the building project there is completed, Houston said.

During the Board of Education meeting Monday a representative from Lippert Brothers provided a video tour of the Avedis Park project on the middle school campus.

“He estimated the project should be completed by the end of June,” Houston said.

As far as improvements at Jefferson and Will Rogers, Houston said the district is still in the design phase with architects on those projects.

SPS Superintendent Dr. April Grace said no action has yet been taken regarding the proposed new elementary school.
